Despite previous reports that Japanese cell phone users were not all that excited by the iPhone, it seems that may not be entirely true, that is, at least according to a recent survey.
That survey, which consisted of 2,300 Japanese retail stores was conducted by market research company BCN and offered evidence that cellphone sales in Japan have been dropping while smartphone sales have grown 80% in the past year.
Additionally, it looks like Apple is in the clear lead in terms of those smartphone sales. According to the survey, Apple has taken first and second with the 8GB and 16GB iPhone 3G respectively. It should also be noted, that while the results of this survey are just coming out, it was actually done just before the launch of the iPhone 3GS.
Of course, while exciting in terms of iPhone popularity, this is just one survey and cannot really be considered the final answer to the iPhones popularity in Japan.
