China Unicom denies purchasing 5 million iPhones for a September launch

In a little bit on unsurprising news, the rumor that suggested China Unicom purchased 5 million iPhones has been denied. Of course, judging from the past history of what can now only be described as a never ending saga, this almost seems like it should have been expected.

“Talks between us and Apple have been going on for some time, but no agreement has been reached yet,” said Unicom spokesman Yi Difei. “There are all kinds of possibilities. There is no particular timetable for the talks.”

Anyway, in short, China Unicom have denied purchasing any iPhones, let alone 5 million. Ultimately that means anyone in China who still wants an iPhone will either have to continue to wait or hit up the black market.
