Easily update your iPhone app layout with Movement

First off, I will say that I feel slightly bad for posting this. Mainly because this is a very cool app, but the amount of people that will be able to use it will be limited. You see, this one is available only for those that are both using a Mac and have a jailbroken iPhone. Yep, just another reason why I like to jailbreak.

Anyway, the app is called Movement and comes courtesy of Mac developer Jeff Stieler. Just like the name implies you can easily move (re-arrange) the app layout on your iPhone, and by easily I mean you are able to re-arrange those apps on a display other than that of your iPhone, hence the required Mac.

Of course, this also happens to be one of the rumored iTunes 9 features, so everyone may be able to re-arrange their apps with ease soon enough. But in the meantime, Mac users can enjoy the ability a little earlier.

This is fabulous, I’ve been waiting for an application to do this since I got my iPhone. I have several pages of apps and it’s very difficult to rearrange them on the iPhone itself.

Unfortunately, Movement won’t work for me as my iPhone isn’t jailbroken. Suppose I’ll have to wait for iTunes 9, though you think Apple themselves should have introduced something like this long ago…

Make this for PC!!! :o )

I think a lot of people is waiting for this application, this is so laborious to manage the icons on the iphone….

Personaly I know use Categories, so I only have 2 pages on my phone, but still, this app will make it even easier.

I do hope something like this comes with iTunes 9, moving your apps this way feels a little strange at first, but is much nicer and easier.

It would also be nice if a PC developer built an app that did the same thing. Of course, that would still require a jailbreak as of now and once again would limit those that were able to take advantage.

@Dany, I have checked out Categories in the past, but ultimately did not keep using it. Just did not feel as smooth as I had hoped, but maybe I just did not give it enough time.

    Hi Robert,

No you’re right about Categories, it’s not really smooth. But it really helps saving space and organizing all these icons (from 6 ‘pages’ I went down to 2, not full!!).
The good thing also is that it’s easy to customise the folders with your own icons ;o)
