GPush gets added and quickly removed from the App Store

My original excitement on Saturday morning was that GPush, the app that is promising to deliver push Gmail notifications was currently available in the App Store, and for a little while it was available. I can say that because I was one of the few that were actually able to make a purchase, of course even with a purchase and having the app on my iPhone 3GS I am still unable to use it.

It seems that GPush was actually given a false start of sorts and (by request of the developer) the app was pulled from the App Store shortly after it was released due to server issues.

“GPush made it to the App Store, we are aware of a server issue & we temporarily pulled the App off the store while we work on the servers”

Basically, if you are in the category like myself, just sit tight because you will be able to use the app in the future. Also, if you were not able to grab the app, don’t worry because it will make a return, at which time you will actually be able to use it as opposed to just looking at the icon on your iPhone and feeling a little teased.

So far, a new release date has not been announced, however Tiverias Apps has been doing a good job of keeping the status updated via Twitter (@GPush4iPhone). As of this posting, the latest update came about 9 hours ago and notes that they are getting “very close.”

In the meantime, I am going to continue using Prowl for my Gmail notifications, but am looking forward to testing GPush.

Another app snuck in about a week or so ago: PushMail. Works great. Same pop-ups as what we saw with Prowl. Only negative– the alert sound could use some work. Kinda loud, but a single, um, thud sort of sound. Meh! Still, NuevaSync’s push + PushMail gives me the same effect as when I used the Prowl/Growl combo, w/o needing to keep the PC on 24/7 (a vacation with laptop killed the latter combo). $25/yr for NuevaSync’s hookup, but you can also sync additional Google Contacts fields (& cal of course). Bottom-line: I finally have my Blackberry style mail. One happy camper!

I second a nod towards PushMail. It just works.
