Is Apple ditching the 8GB iPhone 3G in favor of an 8GB iPhone 3GS?

What is in a name, well if we are referring to the iPhone, and can believe this latest rumor it would seem to be everything. Anyway, according to the Boy Genius Report, it looks like Apple is getting ready to phase out the 8GB iPhone 3G in favor of an 8GB iPhone 3GS.

These details are still unconfirmed by Apple, and come by way of some screenshots from Rogers internal system. Anyway, assuming this is accurate, we may have some who recently purchased an 8GB iPhone 3G become angry very quickly.

Still, it would be an interesting move on the part of Apple. As far as pricing, that does not seem to have been included in the screenshots, however based on the current $299 (32GB), $199 (16GB) pricing, it seems likely that it would remain with the same $99 price tag that the current 8GB iPhone 3G has.

Additionally, there is not any mention as to when this will actually happen, the memo uses words like “transitioning” and “effective immediately” but keep in mind that this is a leaked memo and we have no idea when it was scheduled to go out. If nothing else, this could make for an interesting announcement for Apple’s annual Fall event.

I could wish this announcement had been made yesterday, before I bought a 16gb 3gs! I have never come close to filling the 8gb iPhone classic that I have had for two years, so paying for the 16 gig was a little painful.

Apple is a rip off!! That’s why I jailbreak to install free apps and get my money back

  3. Bent24 Says:

So you steal from the developers of the actual app because your furious of apples marketing techniques?? Ok, that is garbage mentality if I ever heard it. Please tell that to the courtroom if you ever find yourself their. Cracked apps, I see the appeal but be honest about what you are doing. I guess honesty among thieves is not that common. Lol!!!

Thanks for the comment @Bent24, very well said.

There is much more to jailbreaking than getting free apps.

And even if Apple is a rip off, that does not make it right to steal from the developers. To me that is like saying I spent way more than I should have on a gas-guzzling car so I am going to steal gas from a gas station. Faulty logic.

This is not surprising, and makes sense if you look at it from Apple’s perspective.
