PushMail app kind of, sort of brings push Gmail to the iPhone

A newly released app is now offering the ability to offer Push Notifications for your email. It seems the app can be used for just about any email account, however the emphasis is on Gmail. I will say that I am excited about the idea of getting my Gmail in real time, but I am not entirely sold on this method, despite it seeming simple.

The app, which is called PushMail simply sends you a message when you receive an email. The message you receive will include the senders name, the subject and the beginning portion of the message.

The PushMail app works by having you create an account with dopushmail.com and then forwarding a copy of your Gmail (any email) to that dopushmail account. Tin-foil hat time: Yes, you have to forward your email to someone else.

Initially, I was a little skeptical of sending my personal email to someone else, and to be honest I am still a little nervous, however according to the DoPushMail site, they do not “store emails in any way.” I will let you make up your own mind on this.

Anyway, assuming it all sounds good, the app is currently available and selling for $4.99. I am thinking that I can already do something similar by sending a copy of my Gmail email to my MobileMe email address, plus this way I can keep my 5 bucks and not have to worry about my email being seen.

I don’t understand why Google can’t get push mail working. With the Google CEO on the Apple board (until recently), how the heck did Yahoo get push e-mail abilities and not Google?

Do to the way this works, it sounds iffy as a free app. I definitely wouldn’t pay $5 for what this app offers.

wait you can already do this exact thing by getting a yahoo account and forwarding all your mail to that except one small difference. its completely safe and its free. but i also agree google should just get their own sync and stop making us use stupid work arounds
