It seems that Apple has lowered the pricing on the iPod touch software update. The update, which would bring touch users up to OS 3.1 is now just $4.95.
Of course, even though this has been done with little fanfare coming from Apple, it is a move that we have seen in the past. If you remember back those who purchased an original iPod touch back in 2007 were expected to pay $19.95 if they wanted to update in January 2008. Since then, the price was cut from $19.95 down to $9.95 for the release of OS 2.0 and 3.0.
As you would expect Apple has not given an official reason as to why the price has been lowered, but just maybe it has something to do with the stats coming from a recent AdMob report which showed that only 1% of iPod touch users were accessing its ad network from OS 3.0.
