AT&T MMS messaging details, customer can a expect a “late-morning” Pacific time launch

Many AT&T customers have been eagerly waiting for the September 25 availability of MMS messaging for the iPhone, well iPhone 3G and 3GS at least, and thankfully that day is just about here.

And now with a little bit of prep work, AT&T has begun to offer a little bit of information about what we can expect in terms of the launch. My guess would be to try and avoid at least some of the phone calls they are likely to get tomorrow.

MMS Update: We know you’ve been eager for this service so we wanted to offer a quick update on the launch plans for MMS on Friday, Sept. 25. Late morning, Pacific Time, on Friday, the new carrier settings update enabling MMS should be live and ready …to download through iTunes. We’ll provide the steps and all of the details you need right here at that time.

Basically, it looks like MMS messaging will become available sometime in the “late morning.” Of course that is late morning Pacific Time, which means those on the East Coast will have a little while longer to wait.

According to the story, customers will receive a text message that will alert them when MMS is ready for use. Bottom line, for those that are still overly excited, just sit back and prepare to wait for your text.

  2. Greg Says:

    I don’t understand why they need to send us a text. I got that text 2 days ago about the mms. Do foes that mean I don’t have to wait?

  3. DarrenC Says:

    Does an MMS message count as more than one SMS message?

  4. Drbling Says:

    @Darren
    you are kidding me right? Mms stand for multimedia message service. Another word picture message.

  5. Bent24 Says:

    @Darren

    No AT&T said that mms would not cost anymore than SMS.

  6. DarrenC Says:

    @Drbling I think you’re missing the point. MMS (of course I know what it means, hence the distinction between it and SMS) uses more bandwidth and we could therefore be charged more. I wouldn’t put it past AT&T to try…

    @Bent24 Thanks, I couldn’t find anything official.

  7. BAB Says:

    Well the I can revive pics but having trouble sending.

  8. Groundpounder Says:

    After downloading, first attempt failed. Second went out but still shows out going on screen. Has also limited amount of text I can send. Understandable if sending text w/pic, but same thing when no pic included. Very disapointing.
