Boggle Game Review

Boggle Game Review

For a long time there has been one word game that’s reigned supreme among the rest. A word game that brings fear to the weak at heart, and brings a smile to librarians and word lovers everywhere. A game so great it can only be known by one name, Boggle! Boggle has been the chosen word game of enthusiast for some time, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s an intense, competitive, demanding game that’s designed to pump the mind of every last vocabulary word it might possibly hold. The only problem is you may not always have access to this wonderful world of words. Well now you can, by simply downloading Boggle to your iPhone or iTouch.

The introduction of this popular game to iDevices was a brilliant move by Electronic Arts. One reason being, they already have an expansive customer base of Boggle lovers throughout the major countries. But this Boggle isn’t just for Boggleheads. I tested this game to see what all the talk was about, and now I sit here today writing this article and taking breaks for a little Boggle action.

The game play and rules are easy to understand. You have a board of letters that you must make words out of. You simply drag your fingers across the letters in the correct order to make any word. You can attach letters that are vertical, horizontal, or diagonal to each other. You’re scored on the length of the word. You’re also timed for each set, so spell quickly! Every time you form a word it’s written to the left of the screen, so you can avoid repeating words and losing time. Personally, my favorite part of playing Boggle was getting to shake the dice. But you can’t do that with your iPhone right? Wrong! You reset the dice (letter cubes) by shaking your device!

This app offers three modes: Classic, advanced, and self-score. Classic follows the rules and game play described above. Advanced is similar to classic but somewhat more challenging. You spell words the same way and your scored the same. But every time you spell a word, the first and last letter are switched, so it’s hard to plan your next move! Self-score mode is in my opinion the best feature. This is basically a virtual version of the Boggle board game. Instead of the physical dice and container your iPhone or iTouch replace them. So you can gather a group of fellow Bogglers and grab and pen and paper and have the time of your life!

I would recommend this game for anyone who likes word games or just wants a great game to pass time. The graphics for this game are above the standard, but what else would you expect from a brand like Electronic Arts! It’s definitely worth the $2.99 so stop by your local app store and get it today!
