We all have pictures on our iPhones or iTouches that we would like to distort in one way or another. Maybe add a little hair there, cover up a mustard stain here, or turn this one into the next great work of art. Wait, what was that last one? How can you turn a boring, bland picture of your uncle Fred into a priceless piece of art? Simple, use the Brushes application from Steve Sprang.
Brushes is an app is which you can modify your pictures on your device to make them appear hand painted, touch up trouble spots, or just color over backgrounds that you may not like. The first thing I did was pull out a picture of myself in which I was posing perfectly and looked rather handsome. The only problem was there was a rather obscene man in the background whom decided to portray a certain finger I didn’t want in my picture. So I work magic with my fingers and colored over the entire background with white. Now I had a beautiful self portrait I could share with everyone!
The second thing I tried was turning a picture of my brother into a work of art. Using two of the brushes in this app, I quickly turned my brothers boring face picture into something comparable to the Mona Lisa! Well, It might not have been that good, but it was definitely an improvement! It’s fun to take funny or silly pictures and see what the would look like as a painted picture.
The last thing I tried was enhancing a picture that was originally ugly and inadequate. I zoomed in on my eyes to try and eliminate their beadiness. I colored over the bald spot on my side burn where my brother decided to give me a hair cut. And I colored over a food stain on my shirt to avoid looking like a slob. All in all it wasn’t a professional photoshop job, but it did make the picture more appealing!
This app is fun and easy to use. And for the price of $4.99 it’s worth giving a try. I found it a life saver to use to add photos to a social networking site. For example, I can upload a photo and use Brushes to fix it up however I want. Then I can save that photo back into my pictures and use another app to upload it to my Facebook. Whatever you use it for, you’ll most likely enjoy it!
Verdict: 4.5/5 Stars
