Commodore 64 emulator app approved, then removed from the App Store

Remember that C64 emulator that was rejected by Apple back in late June — well it was recently approved for entry in the App Store.

Sounds like good news, the availability announcement came over the weekend, but unfortunately as of now (Tuesday morning) the app is once again unavailable. So far, I have not been able to find any clue as to the removal, both the company website and Twitter account still reflect the app as being available, but I would imagine that will change soon.

When I attempt to visit the App Store to check out the app, I am greeted with the “your request could not be completed” message.

Anyway in hope that it will return, according to earlier descriptions of the app, C64 was selling for $4.99 (App Store link) and is/was a fully licensed Commodore 64 emulator for the iPhone.

The app, aside from a nice overall look, C64 featured:

  • Original Commodore 64 game graphics
  • Original SID sound
  • Auto-save, to continue exactly where you left off
  • Realistic joystick and beautifully crafted C64 keyboard
  • Portrait and Landscape play
  • Vertical and Fullscreen gaming (auto rotate for iPod users)
  • and much more…

Additionally, C64 also comes bundled with five games that included Dragons Den, Le Mans, Jupiter Lander, Arctic Shipwreck and Jack Attack.

In the meantime, check out the promo video below to get a glimpse of C64 in action.
