Elgato Systems bring the EyeTV experience to your iPhone

iPhone users now have another option for getting live television on your phone and it comes in the form of the recently released EyeTV app. Maybe this app will convince me to plug my EyeTV adapter back in and begin using it again, after all the app is available for just $4.99, which is a pretty good deal if you already have the hardware.

If you have not heard of the Eye TV before, in short it is a USB TV tuner for your Mac and is currently available in the form of the EyeTV 250 Plus and the EyeTV Hybrid (the model I have) which retail for $199.95 and $149.95 respectively.

Anyway, in terms of features, first and foremost, the EyeTV app offers users the ability stream live television and be able to view that stream for anywhere. Well, anywhere they may have a Wi-Fi connection available, because as you would suspect it will not work over 3G.

Other features include the ability to watch your current recordings, browse the guide as well as view and edit your current schedule. One nice perk is for those who are slightly forgetful, the app allows you to schedule and begin a recording even while you are away from your computer.

Finally, this app does have some requirements that you may want to double check before making your purchase. For example, just as a starting point you need to be on a Mac and running version 3.2 (or later) of the EyeTV software. Additionally, that Mac needs to have an Intel Core 2 Duo processor in order to stream live television. In short, the app seems to have potential, but will clearly not be for everyone.
