It looks like the navigation section in the App Store is going to remain locked in competition to see which app will come out as the winner. Personally, I am siding with Navigon here, but everyone will have their own favorite.
Anyway, we have recently seen Navigon add text-to-speech, iPod controls and other improvements with the release of version 1.2.0, but now they have pre-announced a new feature.
Before I spill the beans on what that new feature is, I will say that it sounds like a nice addition, but one that will most likely come with a little controversy. Anyway, that new feature is real-time traffic data to include details such as the current speeds and whether or not there are any accidents.
Sounds good, but here comes the part that I believe will cause some controversy — this update will cost an additional $25 and come in the form of an in-app purchase. As to when we can expect to see the update go live, according to Navigon it looks like it will be available sometime in October.

It will be an addition to my Navigon app that I will pay for. Word on the street is the add-on “in app” purchase will be $19.99 not the $25 you stated. Any clarification on that and a source? I agree with you, Navigon keeps making their app better and better. How many improvements has the TomTom app done since its been live? NONE. Thanks for the voice, keep up the great reporting.

@The1stDude, In regards to the price, I was not able to verify this so it was not included in the original post but from what I understand the $19.99 will be an introductory price and the $25 ($24.99) will be the regular price.
