Opinion: What I am thinking about the official Google Voice app rejection

I saw the news hit yesterday afternoon in regards to the official Google Voice app being rejected from the App Store and I had written up a nice post covering the details, however after a little thought I am not going to publish it. Strangely yes, I am writing to tell you I wrote a post but that it will not be published here or anywhere.

Now you may ask why, and the answer is simple — I do not really care and I don’t think you should either.

Such a big statement, but here is why I will say that. At this point in time the debate seems to have shifted focus to Google and Apple and left out AT&T, but whether two or three companies remain involved really do not change my overall view.

Basically it comes down to this, both Google and Apple are big companies, and both companies have their loyal fans and those loyal fans expect to be treated fairly. Of course this is the real world and this is a perfect example that not everyone (or every company) is always what you think they should be.

Bottom line, one of the involved parties are lying, flat out lying and regardless of who it is, is it us, the consumer and user that is being hurt. Honestly these involved parties should just buck up and be honest, after all we are talking about a service, an app and a phone. Lets face it, this stuff is not life changing, of course that being said I still love Google Voice and I still love the iPhone but am saddened by this madness.

I 100% agree with you, the innovation must be rewarded even if they coming from big competitor.

I am sick of this “Apple is evil for not letting google release their app for the app store” nonsense. Shouldn’t a store, digital or not, be able to reject something from their store if they don’t want to sell it. Remember when Walmart would only sell the non-explicit CD’s? Noone said a thing about that. Shouldn’t Apple have the same right? They did create the App Store by the way and it’s theirs to do with it. Noone can help that the App Store and iTunes is the choice of everyone for music and app downloads. It’s not Apple’s fault. And why is everyone saying they should make the app store and itunes open for all 3rd parties to use on their phones/software/etc. If I had a company and a great product, I wouldn’t pimp it out to other companies so they can make profit off of my product. That would be stupid.
