Starbucks has recently released their new iPhone application, which goes by the name of Starbucks Card Mobile. Unfortunately, while it is available for download, it does not yet work everywhere. According to the App Store description, only users in Cupertino, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, San Jose and Seattle will be able to take full advantage as of now.

Still, this does sound like it will eventually be a must have app for any Starbucks addict. The app, which is available for free will allow the user to check their account balance, reload their balance, view their previous purchase history and perhaps most esciting — pay for their drink.

Short of adding more funds to their account directly from the iPhone app, it sounds like this will offer an experience similar to having a more traditional plastic gift card. Basically, the app will present a screen with a bar code when it is time to make the purchase.

Now, lets just hope that you don’t forget this “card” when you are in a rush and quickly drive away from the window, or hurry back out of the store after you make a purchase.

While I am not located anywhere near the current testing area, I cannot begin to test this app out, although my first thought was when it would be available everywhere, sadly I was not able to find any time estimate.

Additionally, Starbucks also released a second app, and again this one is free, but more importantly may be a little more useful for those outside the testing area. The second app is called myStarbucks and it will allow users to do things like find a store, build a drink, check the menu as well as save your favorite items in the “myStarbucks” section for “quick recall and sharing.”
