Honestly I could write a whole post on the third party apps that are available in regards to push Gmail. Not to mention these apps are all so similarly named, we have PushGmail, GPush, G-Push Mail and gPushed just to name a few.
Personally, I think the best option was announced earlier today, which was the official Google support by way of Google Sync, but I also understand that due to the Exchange issue that may not be an option for everyone.
Anyway, getting back on track.
With a little bit of unfortunate timing, the latest push Gmail app hit the App Store earlier this morning. I only say unfortunate because of the timing with the news, I have not used the PushGmail app and therefor cannot say how well it works.
Anyway, according to the App Store listing, PushGmail features:
- Popup notifications
- A badge counter that shows the number of unread messages in your inbox
- Ability to customize notifications within the iPhone Settings app
- Will work with all Gmail accounts to include Google Enterprise and Google Apps
- The ability to have the app launch either the iPhones built-in Mail.app or the web-based version of Gmail using Safari
- No subscription fees
Of course, with all of that said, I do think there still is a market for third party push Gmail apps and with the customization that PushGmail allows this appears to be a pretty solid option.
Finally, in regards to pricing, the PushGmail app is available for a pretty reasonable $0.99.
