A little bit of good news has come in the form of a subscription based music service app for the iPhone — Rhapsody (App Store link) has been approved and is currently available for download.
As far as using the app, you can download and begin using the app for free, however if you are not a Rhapsody To Go subscriber then you will be limited to the seven day trial. After which, if you decide to sign up, Rhapsody To Go is currently priced at $15 a month.
A few good points with the Rhapsody app is that you are able to stream an unlimited amount of music using either a Wi-Fi, 3G or EDGE connection, they also claim to currently have 8 million tracks available.
The bad part is that you have to pay that $15 a month, not to mention the tracks are being streamed at 64kbps, which is low when compared to Pandora One who stream their tracks at 192kbps.
Now, initially I was excited about Rhapsody coming to the iPhone, and stated that I would become a Rhapsody user should it get approved. I am going to back step a little on that statement and give the service a trial run before I commit. Personally I like the idea of an available on demand music service for the iPhone, but given that it cannot cache any tracks I am not sure it can offer me anything that Pandora does not.
