You asked about MMS, here are some answers

Over the course of yesterday and last night I received a few emails with some MMS related questions. Given that I decided to write up the answers and post them all here in one place. I figured that way the answers can help more than the one person getting the email. Anyway, here goes…

  • To begin with, in order to get MMS working you will need to perform an update through iTunes similar to what you would do for a regular software update. Just plug in your iPhone and click the “Check for Update” button. After the update has run, you will also need to reboot your iPhone (although some are offering mixed reports on the reboot).
  • The only iPhones that are going to be able to send or receive MMS messages are the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS.
  • MMS messages will count the same as any regular text message does.
  • Sending an MMS message is done by clicking the little camera icon that is located in the bottom left hand corner of the message screen. It is just next to the text field where you type your message.
  • In addition to pictures, you are also able to send other information such as audio, video, contact information and your current location. In order to share those items you just use the Share button in the appropriate app, similar to how you would have done it in the past for an Email message. Although, I should point out that sending a voice memo does require you to use the Voice Memo app.

Finally, I was also asked my thoughts. I am not sure why anyone would want to know this, but here goes. I have not updated. Due to the need of updating to 3.1 I have held off and I will remain that way until a jailbreak for iPhone OS 3.1 becomes available for the iPhone 3GS.

Of course, all things considered, I have now been an iPhone user since the original iPhone was released and I have lived without it for this long, I am not really sure I miss it all that much.

In fact the only reason I was excited was because it would just make it easier for non-smartphone friends and family members to send me pictures, or at least make it a little easier for me to view them.

MMS seems to be very slow sending. Do you think it’s the AT&T network working out some bugs.

  2. Jay Says:

MMS will work with 3.0 if you simply download and update the carrier file. I know trust me :-)
