Apple begins shipping jailbreak proof iPhone 3GS’s

Anyone who follows the jailbreaking scene can attest to how it is a constant game of cat and mouse with Apple. Even as someone who is simply a user and not a developer this game has become increasingly harder to keep track of.

Now it would appear as if Apple has taken some addition steps to stop people from jailbreaking, or at least stop them from jailbreaking their brand new iPhone 3GS. According to a recent post over at iClarified, Apple has begun to ship the iPhone 3GS with a new bootrom.

Without getting to deep here on just what a bootrom is, lets just say that this update means it is no longer vulnerable to the 24kpwn. As far as what the 24kpwn is, that was the exploit that is used by both the DevTeam and Geohot to provide a working jailbreak.

Moving on, MuscleNerd, who is a member of the DevTeam states that;

“a normal untethered JB may be in jeopardy in brand new 3GS units”

He also went on to state that this was the first time he has seen Apple provide an update like this and unfortunately as of now a fix has not yet been found. Bottom line, if you are using a recently purchased iPhone 3GS and had trouble jailbreaking, you may want to check. If your phone has iBoot-359.3.2 you may be out of luck for a little while.
