AT&T Carrier File Update 5.6 mystery solved, it fixed MMS error issues

Remember that AT&T Carrier File Update that was received a little while back? It was Carrier File Update 5.6 and it came not that long after OS 3.1.2 was released. Unfortunately at that time, there was nothing in regards to what it was doing or fixing or adding. Also, just as an FYI, Carrier File Update 5.5 was the one that enabled MMS messaging.

Anyway, I would imagine that most people just did the update without question, but still, it is nice to know what it was for — even if that ‘what for’ comes after the fact.

Thankfully in this case it was an update that offered a simple fix. According to iPhone Savior;

“When sending photos or videos in an MMS message, the progress bar would stall at about 90% then result in an error ending with a (!) red exclamation point next to the MMS message. The associated message failed to be properly sent, though standard text messages worked as normal. The 5.6 patch addressed that particular MMS issue.”

Personally, I cannot verify any MMS trouble that was happening in regards to sending MMS messages, mainly because I still have yet to send or receive one. But I guess I should still thank AT&T for finally allowing my iPhone to do what my basic free phone could do several years back.

    I’ve personally encountered that glitch a few times post-5.5, but I hadn’t since I upped to 5.6. I guess I know why.

    I was having that exact same problem, crazy thing is…it just fixed itself one day before I even did the carrier update. Talked to AT&T, they went through their flowchart and nothing fixed it, talked to Apple they did the same then told me I had to restore my phone and install everything as if it was a new phone….didn’t want to do that so I just didn’t do anything (MMS wasn’t really that big of deal to me) One day I magically received a picture from someone, and low and behold I could send them too!!

    That’s odd, I tried sending some MMSes today and all 3 failed. Instantly. And I have the upgrade…

    Second time around it worked.

    Bleh.

    See I’m with Troy on this. I mean the first day mms was avaliable I had issues all that day sending. But couple days later everything was fine. I still have the 5.5 update. I have no problems. Do I even need 5.6?
