Confirmed: TomTom Car Kit is not compatible with the iPod touch

For those not following as closely, the TomTom car kit mount offers a nice perk — it offers an “enhanced GPS performance” which comes courtesy of the built-in GPS. That has for some time now caused many to believe, or at least hope that they would be able to turn devices such as their non GPS having iPod touch into an in-car navigation device.

Unfortunately, the bad news has been confirmed. This will not work, in other words, you are not going to be able to effectively run the navigation app on your touch. Additionally, this would also be the same for those still sporting the original iPhone.

That said, you could still use the mount on your original iPhone or iPod touch for the other features that it offers such as charging, hands-free calling and taking advantage of the 3.5mm audio-out jack. Of course, you can already hook your iPhone or iPod touch up to your car stereos 3.5mm jack without using this mount. Not to mention, while the mount seems nice, this option would be a little on the pricey side if it were not to be used to take advantage of the main feature — enhancing the GPS signal strength.
