iPhone Treading into RIM’s Territory
October 20, 2009 | Stephane Dion

Just the fact that you’re reading this blog gives some indication of the fact that you appreciate the iPhone in some capacity. However, according to a recent study, the device’s popularity has been so broad that it’s smashing beyond the walls that have (until now) defined the consumer user market.
In fact now it looks like the iPhone is taking over Research In Motion’s (RIM) traditional arena: the corporate-smartphone market.
Get this: According to Apple more than 50% of Fortune 100 companies in the U.S. and about half of the Financial Times 100 in Europe are using the iPhone. Possible reason for the staggering numbers? People are actually buying the iPhone with their own money then asking to be able to use it for work-related purposes (opposed to the usual trend of the workplace issuing devices of its own choosing).
RIM says the true competition between the devices isn’t going to happen until companies start connecting iPhones to their back-office systems for email and other work applications.
