Pepsi Offers Apology For iPhone App in the Hot Seat

Well it seemed like a good enough idea at the time… PepsiCo, in what is a debatably successful marketing ploy, released a new iPhone application earlier in the month that claims to help men “score” with women. Called “AMP UP Before You Score”, the app contains 24 female stereotypes including “sorority girl,” “punk,” and “treehugger,” and the corresponding pickup lines designed to land dates and maybe more. The app then provides the means for men to broadcast successful “scores” to all of their friends.

Naturally an internet-wide backlash ensued due to claims of sexism, stereotyping, and just plain degradation of women.

Pepsi (specifically under their AMP Energy Drink label), in a sort of backhanded way apologized for the trouble in the form of a Tweet on Monday: “”Our app tried 2 show the humorous lengths guys go 2 pick up women. We apologize if it’s in bad taste & appreciate your feedback.”

The app is still available for free download on AMP’s website but asks that users only 17 years & older download it.

This country is so PC it’s disgusting. You can’t do or say anything without some loser getting butt hurt and threatening a lawsuit.

You know what? This is a cool little app. Well thought out, links to live content, maps… it’s funny. People need to chill out and have a sense of humor.

I have one word for anyone offended by this app.

    “Tough”

Life is not fair, we are not all created equal. Some of us ARE in fact better than others, and your delicate sensibilities are irrelevant.

    Any questions?
