While the industry is getting hyped up over a Google versus Apple war with the forthcoming release of Verizon’s Droid phone (which runs Google’s Android operating platform) but that isn’t stopping the two rivals from potentially teaming up on the app front.
Google just revealed a free online navigation service that will be integrated into its Android 2.0 mobile operating system but surprisingly this app could also come to the iPhone according to the company. The only potential snag? Apple’s got to approve the app first.
Google said it would like to support the iPhone with Maps Navigation as well.
Many Google supporters are still feeling a little insulted over the Google Voice incident (the Google Voice application was not accepted into the App Store) but despite such snafus, a Google spokesperson has been quotes as saying, “Apple is a close partner.”

Maybe it won’t need to be submited for approval as a seperate application, but may come as part of the OS in the maps application. Quite possible, i guess we just have to wait and see

Apple will destroy itself with this overbearing ‘app control’ attitude. The iPhone is the first Apple product I’ve tried, and I’m going running for an android device as soon as my contract is up.

How is this a “popular” app when it hasn’t even been released yet?
I agree that it looks awesome and I agree that Apple’s application review process (and the need for it) sucks, but how is this characterizable as a “popular” app? Popular with whom?

AT&T won’t be keen on allowing this feature as they have an expensive navigation function they are trying to sell. So not only do we have to put up with Apple, but AT&T as well……..
