TomTom car kit kind of, sort of gets listed in the US Apple Store
October 22, 2009 | Robert Nelson

Yesterday I saw a posting over on TUAW and was initially excited, not because I am planning on making a purchase, but instead just to finally see the TomTom car kit released. Anyway, the headline read that the TomTom car kit has made an appearance in the US Apple Store.
Of course, I did what any good geek would do and followed the link only to find the “Page Not Found” display. So not wanting to take that for what it was, I then hit up the search box for the Apple Store and found something interesting.
The search takes you to a page that mentions the TomTom car kit, but will not allow you to click through to the actual item page.
TomTom Car Kit for iPhone
Everywhere you go, the TomTom Car Kit gives you the most advanced navigation technology to lead the way on your iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G. You also get safe and secure docking and the freedom to take calls on the move and play your favorite tunes over your car stereo.
• Advanced TomTom navigation
• Secure docking that keeps your iPhone well in place
• Enhanced GPS signal for the most accurate positioning
• Easy-to-hear voice instructions with built-in speaker
That said, the TomTom car kit has kind of, sort of made its way into the Apple Store. Unfortunately this little blurb did not mention anything about when it will actually be available, nor how much it will cost. Heck, it did not even include an image.
With that, a little bit of info that was pulled from TUAW and their readers is that the once listed car kit had a $119.95 price tag and that it was going to begin shipping as of December 4. I guess we will see how that actually holds up if/when the car kit comes back into the store for real.

I hear this will also work on 1st generation iphones as the mounting kit itself has GPS built into it..and it wont rely on the apple GPS for it’s signal…if this is true then I may have to invest….
Tom-Tom Slom-Tom. Good grief. Get the ATT Navigator. Its here its now it runs on the iPhone as is – no ‘kit’ or add on device needed. Does everything Tom-Tom does.
The page was up for over a day, I found it through the recently added list. It had no price at first, then they added a price but it was listed unavailable, and now it seems they’ve taken it down.
I had seen it on there for $119.00. Anyway, I think it’s better to just get a stand alone GPS for those prices. Just my 2 cents
Everyone keeps saying that ‘it’s better to just get a stand alone’ I personally would rather be able to listen to my music/charge my phone while in the car as well, and instead of having to buy something else and having another piece, I just use the phone in my pocket… It may be close price wise but it’s considerably more convenient to have the navagation on your phone.
