Despite the long and seemingly never ending saga that it took to see the iPhone 3G and 3GS get an official release in China — the sales figures coming from the launch weekend were not all that spectacular. Well, not all that spectacular in my opinion, but according to China Unicom, they were noted as being “satisfied with iPhone sales so far.”
So just what was that number, well so far there has been a confirmed report of 5,000 sold.
Like I said, it does not seem all that spectacular. But that could be due to the fact that the iPhone is being sold for a pretty penny. If you remember back to my original post from a few days ago, the 32GB iPhone was selling for the equivalent of $1,026 US dollars.
Additionally, the iPhone that was released over in China came sans Wi-Fi.
Given this welcome, it seems to look like Apple is not going to be making their estimated goal of selling “460,000 iPhones each year in China.”

That’s officially. Unofficially, there are over 2 million unofficial iPhones in china.

right on Eddy – why would Chinese pay premium prices for something they can “unofficially” right off the street. iPhones were available in China long before we could pick ours up at the Apple store.
