7 Chords App Review: Pocket Guitar Teacher?

7 Chords App Review: Pocket Guitar Teacher?

Last Christmas my brother decided he wanted a guitar. What prompted him to ask for a musical instrument of any kind dumbfounded me. When he got it, he started strumming away at some hopeless tune. In all honesty, no one in my family has any musical talent whatsoever, so the natural move for my brother was to buy those cheap posters with guitar chords on them. After the posters, a learning video, and attempting to learn online failed my brother sort of gave up. That’s when I stepped in to try and learn as well, and I found the posters pretty helpful. Well the 7 Chords app eliminates the need for posters and places all those chords directly on your iPhone or iTouch.

7 Chords is an app focused mainly on beginning guitarists. You can search for a basic cord by scrolling the wheel on the left, then scroll the wheel on the right to match up the exact chord your looking for. Once you find the chord you’ll see how to position your fingers above. The app shows you the finger positions, fret numbers, and notes in a simple black and white picture.

Now don’t expect this app to make you the next great guitar hero of your generation. However, I can see this app teaching the average beginner the basic chords. At $1.99 the app is cheaper than guitar lessons! So check out 7 Chords now!
