And the Award for the Most Useless iPhone Accessory Goes to 4iThumbs, A Semi-Tactile Keyboard Overlay

Like many, the lack of a physical keyboard was one of many reasons it took me so long to jump on the iPhone bandwagon. But once I started using the iPhone’s virtual keyboard day-to-day for a few weeks, I quickly got used to it. Typing on the iPhone is even easier now with the landscape keyboard available in more apps.
But that didn’t stop the creators of 4iThumbs, an overlay for your iPhone that adds tiny bumps that correspond with the virtual keyboard. Looking at the video below, it does seem to help a bit with typing, and it seems to be easily removable–but I’m not sure the gains are worth having another accessory hanging around.
I think this product may be dead right out the gate. Most keyboard-addicted users would think twice about making the jump to the iPhone, especially with the many options out there featuring real keyboards (Motorola Droid or the latest Blackberry Bold). And even if they do make the jump, they’d be better off trying to adapt to the iPhone keyboard rather than dealing with an accessory they have to keep on hand for heavy typing duty.
4iThumbs is available at their website for $14.95 (standard mode), $16.95 (landscape mode), and $19.95 (standard and landscape). As far as accessories go, at least it’s some inexpensive.
