If you’re interested in how things are shaping up on the Android side of the pond, it’s probably worth your while to check out this insanely comprehensive comparison of the iPhone 3GS and the Motorola Droid by the folks over at TechnoBuffalo. Even if you’re a complete iPhone fanatic, it’s wise to stay alert on how things are shaping up for its competitors. The Droid, in particular, is a phone that will do gangbusters for Verizon and the Android platform (you can read my further thoughts on that matter here).
The video is fairly long, clocking in around seventeen minutes, but it covers pretty much everything you’d want to know between the two titan competitors. I’m very interested in how Apple will respond to the Droid, because it does offer many things the iPhone 3G S doesn’t. The larger screen size on the Droid is a boon in many ways, particularly for making the phone a more viable option for reading eBooks, and Google Maps Navigation remains a pretty compelling killer app for the Android platform. Hopefully, Apple will bring it over to the iPhone side, even if it means forgoing sales from the crazy expensive GPS apps.

I love my iPhone but it certainly has room for improvements. That’s why I am happy that the Droid is a great phone, in the end it will benefit us through an even better iPhone. Competition drives improvement and ingenuity. Let’s start with the new Google nav app!

I also like the competition aspect. We are embedded with Apple and, overall, very pleased with the interactive applications between home and mobile. The App Store along with iTunes is a major player and we will see if Marketplace can penetrate. The “free” apps comment re to Marketplace needs to be looked at as my preference is to pay for Apps versus deal with ads and overall both distribution points have to deal with the third party greediness. Also, we have NAV in our vehiciles, so not a big deal with us which way the NAV goes … certainly Apple Maps has been good for our situation.
