Dual Electronics has recently unveiled the XGPS300, which is an in-car GPS unit and mount for your iPod touch. Now while interesting, I can already see the good and bad arguments from both sides. First, the unit is expensive (more on that to come) and second this cradle/mount can only be used with the NavAtlas navigation app that will be included with purchase. That said, the iPod touch will have GPS and that is exciting.
Anyway, the XGPS300 will ship with the previously mentioned NavAtlas navigation app, which provides turn-by-turn navigation. But the cradle/mount is the more exciting part here. You see, the mount is just that — an in-car mount. But it also features a built-in speaker and miniUSB port.
Now here is the catch, you can also remove the cradle from the car mount and it then doubles as an external battery. That last part, if you ask me brings some added value.
As of now, a release date has not been announced but once available you can expect to pay $179.99.
Which brings me to my last point, once again in regards to price. Personally, I cannot see many people willing to shell out the $180 bucks to own this. That said, when you think of it as both an in car mounted navigation system and also an external battery solution that $180 somehow becomes a little easier to stomach.

I have always loved gadgets – the iphone being my favorite. Why things like this don’t come out sooner is beyond me. The new iPhone 3G has a very good built in GPS tool, so why nobody has taken advantage of it yet is crazy. The price might be a little steep just for a window mount (the actual GPS is the iphone), but as with everything mac; great quality comes at a price.

Has anyone tried the XGPS300 with the Navionics Marine App. This would turn the
unit into a Marine Chart Plotter as backup to dedicated units.
