Ebay is on a mobile development role today with the release of an all new iPhone app, eBay Deals, and an update to the eBay iPhone application. They’ve also updated their mobile website, located at m.ebay.com. So why the increased focus on mobile? Ebay tells TechCrunch that that their mobile efforts are on the way to earning more than $500 million this year, and that one item is purchased every two seconds from their mobile offerings.
The eBay iPhone app adds social media and email sharing, as well as push notifications, to an overall streamlined interface. The Deals app is specifically focused on the many offerings that pop up on eBay’s Daily Deal site, and offers Facebook and Twitter integration, as well as many options to search and find bargains.
It makes sense for eBay to focus on the mobile space. Instead of being chained to your computer as a once-in-a-lifetime auction ends, you can keep tabs on it from anywhere. It’s also the closest eBay will ever get to impulse buying. Coupled with Amazon’s mobile application, you can order pretty much anything from your iPhone these days.
