In some big news coming during this past weekend, Geohot announced that he had unlocked the 05.11.07 iPhone baseband. Which for those not following along as closely, has not been able to be unlocked up until this point.
Anyway, if you remember back a few weeks, Geohot was also the person who first released the jailbreak (called blackra1n) for the iPhone 3GS running OS 3.1.2.
The message came by way of Twitter, where you can find Geohot under the name of @geohot;
“worlds first 05.11.07 unlocked phone!!!!! http://bit.ly/107wbo let it #blacksn0w let it
#blacksn0w let it #blacksn0w”
That said, the unlocking tool is being released under the name of blacksn0w and will allow users to unlock their iPhone 3G or 3GS, but more specifically it will allow them to unlock the latest baseband – 05.11.07 which is found in OS 3.1.2.
In addition to the Twitter post announcing his success, he also released a video on YouTube that demonstrated the proof. Of course, given his past track record I think I would have believed his word.
Anyway, as of this time we still have a little while to wait for the actual release because blacksn0w will not be available until November 4. But with that, it will be available as a free download for anyone and everyone to use. In the meantime, check out the video below while we wait.
