iPhone Users More Likely to Pay for Digital Content

9to5Mac reports on a study that makes iPhone users out to be very willing digital media consumers. The report, by media firm Olswang, points out that 58% of people would pay to access a recently released theatrical film online, 52% would pay to get a film that won’t be on DVD for two months, and 40% would pay for a film available on DVD. But when looking at iPhone users, those numbers jump to 73%, 67%, and 54% respectively.

It shouldn’t be any surprise that iPhone users are more willing to content, after all Apple has trained us well with iTunes–something that remains the industry standard for getting content sold online. iPhone users are also generally more well-off than typical users, and on the whole are more progressively-minded–both of which point to a demographic that would embrace digital content sooner than others.

The report also mentions that 41% of iPhone users (versus 30% general users) would pay for subscriptions of their favorite shows, 19% mentioned they access on-demand TV on their iPhones, and 37% said  they want access to on-demand content in the future. When it comes to books and magazines, there are similar leads for the iPhone demographic.

There were also some interesting notes about Mac users, but their data on that was nowhere near as solid as the above stats.

Interesting post man, and i agree with all your arguments, although i think its worth noting that paying for online content from publishers is going to be a lot different than buying a few tracks on itunes. as far as i know the newspapers are looking at a subscription model which is probably the most realistic. Keep up the good bloggin!
