Geohot, who you perhaps are familiar with because of his recent jailbreaking tool called blackra1n, as well as his soon-to-be-released unlocking tool blacksn0w has turned down an offer of $10,000 for his software.
It seems that after he had announced the he found a method to unlock iPhones running the 05.11.07 baseband he received an offer to purchase that method for $10,000. Then, as we are able to read in his reply, he turned down the money.
“First off, Jody Sanders, I am declining your $10,000. Why? Because you, and the rest of the iPhone unlock sites out there are scum. You make money selling freeware; that’s not cool, and I am in no way going to legitimize it.”
He then goes on to mention that “Our weapon is information.” And urges users to “get the truth out, that all iPhone unlocks and jailbreaks are free.”
Overall, his message makes it clear, users should not be paying for a software tool that jailbreaks or unlocks their iPhone or iPod touch. Bottom line, do not give in, do not pay. Of course, not that I am faulting him in anyway, but I cannot help but think that he does pretty well in terms of donations.
