The modern world of technology has connected people in ways never imagined by people in the past. Before the internet, video conferences, and telephones meeting up with people was an exciting event. However, nowadays if one wishing to speak with a family member in a far off land, all they have to do is pick up their cell phones or turn on their computer. But what if you want to chat with someone face to face, and you don’t have access to your computer? Well never fear because there’s an app for that!
JumiCam, by Jumi, allows users to view webcam video feed directly on their iPhone. As long as you’re connected to the internet you’ll be able to view any webcam on your device. The webcam needs to be connected through the Jumi Server software that can be installed on your computer free of charge.
The app is great for chatting with someone while on the road or vacation. And it’s a great way to stay connected with loved ones. However, Jumi is also a great spy tool. Imagine having a constant eye on your house. Well with Jumi, you can turn your webcam on when you leave, and constantly check up on it via your iPhone. Spy on the baby sitter, see if the cable mans really doing his job, or just watch out for burglars!
All in all, Jumi was a pretty useful app. It did have some flaws, like the webcam cannot be turned on and off remotely. However, with a cheap price tag of only $1.99 it’s definitely worth checking out!

Note: My review is based on a bare machine with a newly installed WinXP SP3 with no anitvirus software and JumiCam running on an iPhone 3G with most updated software( iOS 3.1.3 and 4.0 ). I can't comment for other operating systems or machines.
JumiCam offers great control over stream settings, to low to high quality. The interface is much appealing than other similar Apps.. They offer all these great features but they failed to test their product for compatability, functionality on different machines and continuous usage. Support and reliablity is one major thing JumiCam lacks.
See.. JumiCam requires you to install another program called JumiController, a program that's installed on your computer that has the camera attached to it. Without it, your JumiCam App on your iPhone is useless. JumiCam soley depends on this JumiController, so you would expect that this program would be thoroughly tested before launching other Apps that also use this program.. Well..that's not the case.
Upon launching the JumiCam App and connecting over a local and remote WiFi, everything works. If you disconnect, the chances of reconnecting again are very slim.. What happens is, JumiController thats on your home computer crashes or it doesn't relaunch for the next connection. So for remote connections, this App is worthless.. You would have to go back to that computer with JumiController and relaunch the App or restart your computer if it's frozen. So much for remote, access.
I've emailed support, several times and they've given me setting suggestions and some solutions but it still wasn't helpful to solve the issue. After continuous emails for solutions, Jumitech stopped responding. And this is only after 2 emails from support. I called it quits after several days of testing the App for possible clues as to why the program was crashing, but I had no luck. I returned the App thru iTunes Report A Problem in hopes to get a refund.. I'll let you know how that goes.
With disatisfying results with this App, I've searched out for similar Apps and came across iCam. it's the same price as JumiCam, but doesn't have the robust streaming settings as JumiCam… It needs another program to be installed on your home computer just like the JumiController. iCam has only one streaming setting. The interface is plain, but it does allow you to view 4 different cams at one time.. I haven't tested this feature but once I get 4 cameras I'll let you know. Connecting has been reliable since I started using it. Works great remotely and locally, so far. No crashes or freezes. It also has an alert that signals your iPhone that there is motion detected and a recording option. This all happens without the App running on your iPhone. Look for my review on iCam once I've fully tested out the program.
Additional INFO update:( This is a copy of my report to Apple and the developer.. No response yet.)
"I downgraded my iOs from 4.0 to 3.1.3 in hopes that my previously purchased jumiCam would work since they failed to mention that this was not supported in iOs 4.0 when I purchased the app.. No results. The JumiCam still crashes after 1 successful connection. What the hell! It says on the app.. supported by iOs 3.0.
I purchased JumiMouse in hopes it was JumiCam and not the JumiController.. Crashes again.. JumiController seems to be the culprit.. Without JumiController, none of the jumitech Apps will work. They need to fix this otherwise, this app is no more than a pricey colorful icon on my iPhone.
I would please like a refund for JumiCam and JumiMouse because these APPs failed to perform as mentioned in the description.
JumiMouse: $1.99
JumiCam:$4.99
Thank you,
Benjoseph Manibog"
If you want my honest advice and don't want to lose money and go thru the same headache I went through… Don't purchase this app if you are looking for a way to connect remotely over the 3G/Edge network.. Doesn't work.. If you'll be connecting locally, this app is the one for you. If your looking to connect remotely, I purchased iCam App.. Has been solid for a solid week. Not as many features as JumiCam but hey it works..
