Karuki Game Review: Chalked Full of Fun

Occasionally, I’ll come by a game that’s so incredibly random yet enthralling that it must be played. Usually, the games are very odd in premise and game play but are still addicting. A great example of these types of games is Karuki. Karuki, by Portable Zoo, is hard to categorize under any one category, however I would have to place it under the “Draw-and-Play” section. The game play consists of the user drawing chalk lines with there finger that a little, pudgy, blue man can bounce off of.

The objective is to bounce your way safely to the top while collecting various items. The items are colorful gems and odd little creatures that can only be assumed as mini versions of your player. Your job is to draw various chalk lines of different lengths and angles in the hopes of bouncing your blue man to the top of the level. But be careful, because standing in the way of victory are dozens of evil sorcerers and floating skulls! Plan your bounces carefully to conquer the level!

The graphics for this game were pretty well done, and the unique way of game play is definitely a draw. The only question I have for developers is where did the game idea come from? It seems a little random, a plump little blue man bouncing off of chalk lines while collecting mini versions of himself and gems. But nevertheless, the game is still fun! At $.99 I would definitely recommend checking Karuki out. It’s a great boredom buster!

Verdict: 4/5 Stars
