As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not musically inclined whatsoever. However, I still feel a certain draw to the apps that claim they can turn me into a musical master. Sure, I’ve dabbled here and there on different instruments but never have I committed to one. Well thanks to the ever growing instrument section of the app store, I never will have to commit. Nowadays, If I wish to play an instrument I just browse through apps until I find one that catches my eyes. Well one of the biggest instrument apps sweeping the iWorld is Leaf Trombone: World Stage.

Leaf Trombone: World Stage, an app by smule, is an awesome instrument app that hopes to replace the trombone. For starters, the app is supposedly a mixture of a trombone and the sound that comes from blowing on a blade of grass. Not surprisingly, it’s hard to imagine such an odd sound being paired with any hip music of today. However, the app comes with a pre-installed forty songs, ranging from pop to classic.

What you do is move the slide along in accordance with the music, just like you would move the slide along a real trombone. The play screen of this app is simple, yet down to business. When the music starts, you’ll see a line of floating leaves. Well all you have to do is move the slide along with those leaves to make different tones. The app offers two versions of play. You can either play strictly by touch, or you can blow into the microphone and move the slide. I recommend beginners play by touch!

But the fun doesn’t stop simply on your iPhone. Once you’ve gotten some practice time in, you better be prepared to share your talent with the world. You have the option of playing a musical piece for the world to see, and judge! Play on the world stage, and be judged by hundreds of fellow Leaf Trombonists world wide. Or give your two-cents and rate  other musicians performances! The app allows you to save and share your creations by jumping over to their website at anytime. Which also gives users the ability to upload and play through thousands of user submitted pieces.

All in all, this was a pretty awesome app. A user friendly interface with well done graphics tied with a fun and addicting premise all supported by a creative outlook bring Leaf Trombone to the top of the instrumental app world! At $.99 check it out now!
