MapQuest 4 Mobile Review: Make the Most of Maps

MapQuest 4 Mobile Review: Make the Most of Maps

When it comes to map and directional apps, there is a whole host of different applications to choose from. However,  one of the most recognizable names in navigation is MapQuest. Personally, I turn to MapQuest every time I need directions or a map. It’s quick, easy, and has a bunch of helpful features. Well now you can get the MapQuest 4 Mobile app on your iPhone.

MapQuest 4 Mobile, an app brought to us by AOL, is basically a smaller version of the website on your iPhone. For starters, the app offers the basics like showing you a map from one location to another. To do this you’ll first have to enter your starting location. Luckily, the app has the ability to remember this location so you don’t have to type it in every time. However, you do need an AOL account to do so. Once you’ve entered your starting location you’ll need to put in your end location, which can either be in the form of an address or business name. Then the map will show you the best route to your destination on a map or in step-by-step directions.

The app also offers the ability to rule out certain parts of the directions. For example, maybe you want to avoid using the freeway or a certain street because it’s under construction. Well MapQuest 4 Mobile will allow you to do so. But the convenience doesn’t stop there, the app will also allow you to search for the nearest restaurant, hotel, post office, gas station and more with the touch of a button.

All in all, the app performed pretty much like the MapQuest website. Although it’s up against some stiff competition like Google Maps, I can confidently say I prefer Mapquest. The app is completely free and downloads in just a few minutes. So check it out now!

Verdict: 5/5 Stars

I very much appreciate your highlights here. I am one of the developers who worked on this product and I can say that getting our product into the App store was not without challenges. One minor point of clarity is that you do not need an AOL account to download/use the app. You only need one to use the "MyPlaces" feature which integrates locations you saved on the website. Without it you can still get maps and directions and it will still remember your recent location. Also you can use your existing AIM/MapQuest or AOL mail account to get the "MyPlaces" feature. Thanks again for your kind description.

Looking for some clarification. I work as an EMT in a remote area of north Idaho. …um…yeah…it's a state. There are very few places with a Wi-Fi connection – my house is one of four that I know of. I'm looking for an application that would allow me to download a map (with street level views) for the entire county (or a large selected area). I'm also hoping this would be a searchable map. Does this app meet my needs?
