It seems that a Nintendo 64 emulator app is currently being worked on. First things first though, the app will be destined for those who are running a jailbroken device and also limited to those who are using either an iPhone 3GS or a third-generation iPod touch.
That aside, I cannot say how badly I want this to happen. I am not sure I have mentioned it here before, but as much as I am not a gamer, I love just about everything Nintendo, and the N64 was one of my favorites.
Basically, this is what it comes down to, the app is current being worked on, but there is still some question as to how well it will perform.
Yup, you heard correct. I am currently working on a port of N64 for the iPhone 3gs and iPod Touch 3rd Gen. Why only these two models? Two reasons:
• They’re the fastest Apple handhelds in term of raw CPU performance.
• They both have a faster GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) which allows for OpenGL ES 2.0 specifications.
But getting back to that possible performance issue, according to ZodTTD, the person who is working on the port;
“So yes you may soon see N64 on your favorite Apple device. But I can’t promise it will run games top notch just yet, as things are too early to say. There’s hope though, with a 3D accelerated graphics plugin, as well as an ARM dynarec. If you have a previous generation device, I can use software rendering, but it will slow things down further, along with the slower CPU.”
And as you would expect, there is not any current timeline as to when we could potentially see this released. Of course, I am hoping it is soon.
