I’ll be the first to admit that I’m the closet it gets to a modern day hippy. I drive a hybrid car, recycle everything I can, protest against anything harmful to the environment, and I know a heck of a lot about it. And I happen to know that one of the biggest problems facing the world today is pollution. Chances are, when the average person hears the word pollution they think of air pollution. And it is true that air pollution is a major component of today’s environmental talk. But don’t forget about all the other pollutants in our world!
A new app simply called Pollution, by aMobile Future, uses your iPhone’s GPS to map your current location and show you sources of local pollution. The app pulls its information from an extensive data base derived from organizations like the EPA. Pollution can show you the number of sources in a given radius that are pollution via air, water, ground and radio waves. For example, the app will automatically save your current location. Then you enter the desired area in kilometers you want to see. The app will then list the number of sources from air, water, ground, and radio wave pollution.
The app can also go into more detail of where and what the sources are polluting. Keep in mind that the apps stats aren’t exactly up to date, so there could be more or less polluters in a given area. The interface for this app is pretty impressive, with a knock-out color scheme and easy-to-use controls.
All in all this app was pretty well put together and I’m glad to see someone taking an interest in the environment. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this app for writing a report. However, it is interesting to see just how much pollution is around your neighborhood! Check out the Pollution app now for just $1.99!
