Back in mid-September we saw the announcement from Navigon that real-time traffic updates would be coming soon. Well it seems like “soon” has arrived and those promised traffic updates are now available for purchase.

The traffic updates will come by way of an in-app purchase and will cost users $24.99. But for just a short four weeks, users can purchase those same updates for $19.99. Of course those prices are for a lifetime of service, which means no monthly fees.

In terms of what you can expect should you decide to part with your hard earned money. To begin with, the traffic updates are crowdsourced from over 1.3 million drivers. Other features include;

• Users receive immediate on-screen alerts via iconic warnings indicating accidents, construction and other incidents that can cause congestion along the current route.
• Provides detailed information regarding the severity of the incident and the speed of traffic flow.
• Based on the real-time traffic warnings and the excellent mapping functionality the user can determine an efficient, alternative route or stay on the course.
• The software automatically adjusts estimated time of arrival.

Finally, as it has in the past, the Navigon MobileNavigator app remains available in the App Store and is selling for $89.99. Of course, it is hard to think that this will now make for a total of around $110 bucks depending on when you make the purchase. That said, if you are looking for device convergence then this may be a good option. Personally, I am still not 100% sold, especially when we have other options to consider.
