Second, and potentially more dangerous iPhone worm discovered

Just recently we saw the Ikee worm that was targeting (and rick rolling) jailbroken iPhone users, and now we are getting a report of yet another potential iPhone virus.

I should point out that the threat level for this one is listed as low, but that said it is still worthy of noting. Anyway, according to Intego Security the new threat is a modified version of the Ikee worm and it may not be the warning shot that the original was.

Instead it seems that this modified version, which is being called “iPhone/Privacy.A” is slightly more devious.

“When connecting to a jailbroken iPhone, this tool allows a hacker to silently copy a treasure trove of user data from a compromised iPhone: e-mail, contacts, SMSs, calendars, photos, music files, videos, as well as any data recorded by any iPhone app.”

Additionally, this iPhone/Privacy.A version does not give any sign or indication that it has been around. That means you will not be greeted by Rick Astley wallpaper.

And finally, just like the Ikee worm, this latest strain is only going to affect those that are jailbroken. In other words, if you have not yet, then you should go ahead and change your root password. And just in case you are unsure, fellow iPhonefreak blogger Andy Boxall offered a nice how to just the other day.

Just to confirm this is only a problem when SSH is installed and running on the iPhone, correct?

…for now. That’s why my iPhone is safe and secure. Just like apple intended.

I bet even apple is gonna get in on this whole “virus for jailbroken iPhone” bit. Just to teach all jailbreakers a lesson.

    Jailbreakers beware.

I’ve got a nice, safe, Jailbroken iPhone. Changing the root password takes all of 30 seconds, and renders you immune to all of these new bugs.

This morning my iPhone 3GS was affected by this ikee worm and end up restore and jailbreak it again… But this time, I immediately change the SSH password right after installed the OpenSSH…

    Does your iPhone got affected?
