This Week’s App Store Updates – 20th November

Browsing the App Store this weekend?  Here are six new or updated apps worth taking a closer look at if you are:

CatPaint.

There is not one picture in the world which wouldn’t benefit from having at least one cat added into it, and now all your own dull pictures can have an injection of cat awesomeness thanks to CatPaint!  A choice of 8 different cats can be popped in and when you’ve picked, they give a little meow to show their appreciation.  So, in summary, it’s the best app currently in the store.

Blower – Real Air.

More utterly pointless app fun!  Blower claims to be able to huff enough air out of the iPhone to blow out candles, as demonstrated in their video, but as to whether you would ever find a real-world situation where this app would be handy is open for debate.  We’re not sure we care though, as it’s a great gimmick!

Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies.

The iPhone gets its own version of the CoD zombie level found in the World at War game, and it’s very good indeed!  The 3D animation looks great and there are no problems with using a virtual stick to annihilate the zombies.  New maps are promised for the future.

Orba.

An attractive Ballbreaker-alike game where you must clear sets of three or more coloured orbs in an effort to clear the screen of that colour.  This fun version is free for a limited time, so get it fast!

Birdfeed.

A Twitter client you have to pay for, that isn’t Tweetie?  Interesting!  Updated to version 1.2 this week, the tweaks include the new Twitter geolocation API, Flickr support and an improved UI with a direct message toolbar.  We especially like the threaded conversation style presentation used in Birdfeed.

Silent Hill: The Escape, Silent Scope, Frogger and Metal Gear Solid Touch.

All these big name Konami games have been reduced in price to $0.99 until the 30th November, along with slightly less well-known titles such as DanceDance Revolution and Krazy Kart Racing.  This promotion seems to be for the US App Store only at present.
