Apptizer Offers Personalized Recommendations for iPhone Applications, Now Open for Public Beta
December 10, 2009 | Devindra Hardawar

As the list of applications in the App Store continues to grow, we’re going to see many services popping up that offer different ways to make sense of the clutter. Apptizer offers one potential solution to the problem: Personalized recommendations. The site has recently opened up for anyone to use (after testing the waters with a closed beta for a bit), and it seems to offer much more useful recommendations than the iPhone’s recent Genius addition to the App Store.
When you first sign up for Apptizer, you’re asked for some basic information about your interests—which the site then uses to compile its first set of recommendations. You can then thumbs up or down the suggestions. As you do so, the site will learn even more about your preferences, and then offer even better targeted suggestions in the future.
Given that users actually need to contribute information consistently to make the most of the site, I don’t foresee Apptizer catching on among average iPhone users. For app fanatics though, it’ll be a dream come true.
A blurb from their PR:
With over 100K apps approved by the Apple App Store, finding high quality apps that match your interests is like finding a needle in the haystack. Apptizr does the heavy lifting through our proprietary algorithm that matches the users’ interest with the right apps. The engine is smart enough to learn more about our users’ preferences over time as they tell us whether they liked the recommendations we made. We also evaluate the applications for quality and only recommend the best apps in each category to our users.
