It seems that iPhone users will soon have another option to choose from in terms of finding, buying and reading ebooks.
Borders has recently announced that they are teaming up with Kobo and will offer both an ebook reader and ebook store. As of now, the Kobo store is open and available on the web, and can be found at Kobobooks.com, however this is also going to be integrated in with the current Borders.com store sometime in Q2 2010.
As far as the app, well is seems they are targeting the more casual reader, that is according to Ron Marshall who is the chief executive of the Borders Group who was quoted as saying they want to reach “readers who buy a couple of books a year.”
Additionally, and more than just releasing an iPhone app and store, they are also looking to be “device neutral” and have their content available on a wide variety of devices.
Unfortunately, this announce comes as a little more than a tease for anyone looking for real details because not many have been given just yet. Buy hey, if you are not comfortable with any of the many ebook reader apps that are currently available for the iPhone then at least you have something else to hold out some hope for.
