Before Apple showed up on the mobile enertainment scene, you were forced to either decide between a work mobile device or a fun one. Well luckily, the iPhone and iTouch can be used as both. Not only can you get your business tasks done with all the various apps, but then you can have a little fun with games and entertainment apps. In my opinion some of the most fun apps are the ones in which you can make your own music. Who isn’t tempted to bang on a few keys when they see an open piano? Well now you can play your piano and not get in trouble using the FingerPiano app!
FingerPiano, an app by JYProduct, is your basic pocket piano with a few extra tricks. When you first start the app, you’ll see exactly what you expect, ivory and ebony keys. Obviously the app doesn’t display an entire piano because the keys would be too small to touch. Instead you see about 10 keys at a time with the ability to scroll left or right.
What sets this app apart from other piano-playing apps is the ability to play along with some very famous piano hits. You can try to play along with the best composers of all time like Mozart and Bach or you can try your hand at some of the newer songs made famous by the piano like Joy to the World.
I did find a few bugs in the app, two to be exact. For one, I found tapping the correct key every time was nearly an impossible feat. I can’t say why the layout is so inaccurate but I’m sure it can be corrected with an easy fix. And two, following along with the pre-installed music is extremely hard and first time piano players will be completely lost.
All in all, FingerPiano is fun and quite entertaining to just tap random keys. But don’t expect to master any musical melodies using this virtual instrument.
Verdict: 3.5/5 Stars
