Jailbreaking news: Fix the push notifications on your unlocked/hacktivated iPhone with PushFix

Those currently running a hacktivated/unlocked iPhone may be missing one nice feature that arrived with OS 3.x — push notifications.

If you have activated your iPhone (original,3G,3GS) without an authorized SIM card (i.e. Hacktivated) and are running OS 3.x, then your push functionality is probably not working. The existing fixes haven’t worked because there is only one certificate that many people are sharing.

Thankfully those who are being affected will have (another) option to try and get the lack of push notifications corrected. The latest fix is done by way of an app called PushFix 2.0 and can be found in Cydia. The app is available for $5.99 and promises to “corrects several known problems affecting push (wrong file permissions, etc).” And while this is not a free app, it does come with full tech support.

Personally, my phone is jailbroken and not unlocked and I have never had issues getting my push notifications. That said, I cannot comment on how well this will actually work, but it looks like a promising solution.

The push issue only affects the 1st gen iPhone. If you are running a 3G it activated the phone automatically via iTunes when you connect it. The original iPhone does not activate this way and during the jailbreak it also hacktivates the iPhone so you never get a certificate from apple and push does not work at all. PushFix 1.0 uses the same certificate for everyone who runs it on their iPhone so you end up getting other people push notifications and other people receive yours.

This app is great for people running a jailbroken original iPhone they can now have reliable push notifications.
