It seems that Magellan has become the latest to enter the GPS car kit category with their Premium Car Kit for iPhone, which was just recently announced. So far, the car kit is available for purchase on the Magellan website and is listed for $129.99, however it is noted that it will not be ready to ship until January 7, 2010.
Otherwise, the car kit will work with both the iPhone and iPod touch and will turn your device into a “complete GPS navigation solution.” Of course, that is being done by the built-in GPS receiver, which will not only allow you to use your iPod touch as a GPS device, but also serve to enhance the built-in GPS on the iPhone.
Other features of the car kit include amplified speakers, a noise canceling microphone and the ability to make hands free calls over Bluetooth.
Additionally, it was noted that this car kit will work with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and second generation iPod touch. Users will also need to have a navigation app on their device, which can be the RoadMate app from Magellan.
A few other perks that come with this kit is that its not limited to being used with the RoadMate app and that it will work with a variety of cases.

GPS has become a widely used aid to navigation worldwide, and a useful tool for map-making, land surveying, commerce, scientific uses, tracking and surveillance, and hobbies such as geocaching and waymarking. Also, the precise time reference is used in many applications including the scientific study of earthquakes and as a time synchronization source for cellular network protocols.

This will be a great help for everyone since many Americans have their own apple in their pocket.
