Navigon preparing another update for MobileNavigator

Navigon preparing another update for MobileNavigator

It was not all that long ago that we saw Navigon roll out what most would consider a pretty major update when they added real-time traffic early last month, but now we are learning they have yet another major update planned for MobileNavigator.

The details, which come courtesy of TUAW include;

  • Enhanced Pedestrian Mode: It features a new user interface and uses the digital compass built into the iPhone 3GS. The map now automatically moves with the user making it easy to recognize in which direction to walk.
  • Google Local Search: Users can easily find their way to new places. Simply entering “steak Chicago,” for example, provides a comprehensive list of steak restaurants in the Windy City. By clicking on one of the search results, users are guided to the destination.
  • Navigate by Geographical Coordinates: Navigate using latitude and longitude, and email those coordinates to others.

Personally I have moved onto using MotionX GPS mainly because I am feeling on the cheap side lately, not to mention it has (so far) been able to meet my limited GPS needs.

That said, it is nice to see the little competition that seems to be brewing between Navigon and TomTom in the iPhone GPS market.

As far as this update, as with the Apple approval process we cannot say when it will be available for download, just that it has been submitted.
