Softbank now offering the 16GB iPhone 3GS for free on contract

It looks like Japanese carrier Softbank has become the latest to begin offering the iPhone 3GS for free on contract. According to the details, or lack of details in this case we are unsure if this if going to be a regular price or a limited time promotion.

But with that said, Softbank customers can now take advantage of the “iPhone for Everybody” campaign and pick up a 16GB iPhone 3GS for free. Of course, that free means that you are willing to sign a two-year commitment.

And for those that are looking for a little more storage and wanting that 32GB model instead, while that model is not free there is a little bit of good news price wise. That handset, which was once 960 yen a month is now down to 480 yen (about $6 US) per month on contract.

Additionally, there are also some reports that Softbank is going to stop carrying the iPhone 3G due to poor sales. That of course is a little more significant only because it would mean that Softbank would be the first carrier to phase out the 3G.
